The Free Animus Assistant
Last Updated: October 24, 2026
The free assistant lets you ask Animus questions without an API key or an account. This page explains how it works, what its limits are, and what happens to your questions. For everything else about your data, see the Privacy Policy.
How it works
- Your question is sent from your device to Google Gemini (model
gemini-3.5-flash-lite) through Firebase AI Logic, using Google's free Gemini Developer API tier. - All Animus users share one Firebase project and one free quota. Animus does not pay for it and does not charge you for it.
- Animus has no account system and no server of its own. The answer comes back to your device and is saved as a note on your device only.
Limits
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Answered questions | 20 per day |
| Calls that got a reply (including clarifying rounds and unusable replies) | 60 per day |
| Resets | At local midnight on your device |
- The daily counts are kept on your device. They are a fair-use guard for the shared pool, not an account balance.
- Because the quota is shared by everyone, it can run out before your own 20 questions do. You will see "The free assistant is full for today". It comes back the next day.
- The free assistant covers plain questions only. Screenshot questions, "Verify with web" and tips need your own API key.
- The free assistant is currently Android only, and only for builds installed from Google Play.
- Google sets the underlying free limits and can change them. Animus may change or end the free assistant if the shared quota stops being free or sustainable. Animus will not charge you for it. Your notes and library never depend on it.
What is sent and who sees it
- Sent: the text of your question (plus the game and context Animus adds to it). Screenshots are never sent through the free assistant.
- Google may use free-tier questions to improve its products. Do not put anything private in a free question. Paid and own-key usage is governed by that provider's terms instead.
- App Check: each request carries a device attestation token (Google Play Integrity) so the shared quota is meant for genuine Animus builds only. It does not identify you to Animus. Like any Firebase app, the Firebase SDK also sends Google standard app and SDK metadata with each request.
- Like any internet request, Google receives standard connection data such as your IP address. Animus cannot see or link it to you.
- Animus does not link questions to you, does not log them on any server, and has no analytics.
Want more, or want it private?
Open Vault and add your own key (Google Gemini, OpenRouter or Anthropic), or connect a local Ollama server. With your own key:
- there is no Animus daily limit (only your own monthly spending cap),
- screenshots and "Verify with web" work,
- your questions go straight to the provider you chose under their terms, or stay on your home network with Ollama.
